What makes The River's Edge different?
These are the really important things that The River’s Edge is all about!
Unconditional Love:
Ever
felt uncomfortable like you’d have to act different, look different or
dress different in church? Not at The River’s Edge. We know God made
some really unique people in our world, and so we celebrate diversity!
Bright-colored hair, pierced navels, and body art are all cool. Shorts
& t-shirts are encouraged, dress up if you’d like, but wear your
slippers & pajamas if that’ll make you feel more comfortable!
Bring your troubles, your sin, your bad habits, your screw-ups with
you, after all, Jesus said, "I have come to call sinners to Myself, not
the righteous!" We believe God wants you to come as you are and
worship Him in your own unique way – after all, He made you! Every
person matters to us because every person matters to God.
Cultural Relevance:
We
will be engaged in what God is doing in our world. We’re not
interested in “doing the church thing” and saying weird things and
doing weird stuff that doesn’t make sense Monday through Saturday. We
will focus attention on uniting His Ancient Truth with today’s cultural
reality (Isaiah 46:8-13). Jesus always connected His message with the
culture of His audience, so we will be culturally-relevant while
remaining Biblically founded. We believe in a real God, who is
involved in our real lives, 24/7! If we stop to realize it, we’ll see
God is in the movies, on the radio, in our jobs, our relationships! We
want to see God in action in our world more clearly, learn more and
more about how God intersects with our daily lives and share that truth
of a relevant and relational God with everyone we know.
Audacious Worship:
We
will honor God with bold, undignified worship. We believe God wants
to be worshipped with all of our senses, loud and in whispers, with
passion and tears, shouts and emotion, heart and life. We believe
there is no higher purpose for life than to worship God always, so we
take our worship seriously. Worship is one way people are drawn to
God—to a place where God can speak to our souls more clearly. So
worship at The River’s Edge is an opportunity to sit back and listen
for God to speak to you, with the purpose of connecting you to Christ
and connecting Christ to your life. Any musical styles in our
culture, songs you hear on radio or on MTV, we use to praise the name
of Jesus and hear the Good News of Christ. We are committed to
creating an environment where people can experience God and be drawn to
the mystery and wonder of God’s love and majesty. We want that same
worship to spill over into our lives, knowing that true worship takes
place 24/7 as every aspect of our lives are offered to God for His
glory.
Life Change:
We
celebrate spiritual leaps and encourage life-long baby steps. Everyone
is on some type of spiritual journey. Some are skeptical about God,
the church, or the Bible. Others have questions about faith and are
seeking answers. Some have recently become Christ-followers; others
have believed for a long time. At The River’s Edge, we encourage you
to work through understanding faith at your own pace. Spiritual
growth is a life-long process of becoming more Christ-like. So whether
you’re a spiritual seeker who’s just starting to dip your toes into
this God thing or a committed Christian who wants to dive in to a
deeper walk with the Lord, we want to encourage you to “come as you
are...but leave different!”
